Apply for my Politics Summer School
I have an exciting opportunity for young people in my constituency. I am hosting my second Politics Summer School for students aged 16 to 19 who either live or attend school in Hornsey and Wood Green. The Summer School will take place between Monday 15 and Friday 19 July 2019. It will offer participants the opportunity to gain an insight into the workings of central and local governance as well as how individuals and organisations influence government. The week will include: A day in the Houses of Parliament including a tour, a session on how Parliament works with talks from Members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, and a chance to watch Parliamentary proceedings from the public galleryA visit to Haringey Council with talks from Leader of the Council Joseph Ejiofor, other Councillors and Local Authority Officers.A visit to City Hall including a tour, Mayor Sadiq Khan’s Question Time and a Q&A with Deputy Mayor Joanne McCartneyTalks from a range of Civic Society membersA talk with a journalist about the role of media in politicsA presentation ceremony at the Civic Centre in Wood Green. Wood Green BID to transform front of Library
Wood Green Business Improvement District (BID) have been awarded funding through the Mayor of London’s Greener City Fund Community Grant Scheme to transform the front of the Library area on the High Road. Working in Partnership with the Council, the BID submitted an application for additional funding to look at creating a space which can be utilised to improve the look of the area while supporting community activities. The BID was keen after feedback from both businesses and the general public to look to improve the area of derelict planters outside the Library to create a new community garden over which the community feels a sense of ownership. The project will incorporate a community gardening and volunteering opportunities through a new “Community Library Garden Group“. Working in partnership with local social Enterprise “Grow N22”, the project will deliver increased access to green space, seating and a platform space for community use. The project which will be delivered in May/June 2019 but the BID is keen to here from anyone from all ages who would like to be involved.
