Screening: NHS Borderlands + presentation: London mothers living with insecure immigration status + LOCAL ELECTION HUSTINGS

Please register for a free place via the Eventbrite ticket link.

With local elections coming up on 5 May, there is so much we can do to encourage candidates to do more for migrants in our Borough.

Join us for a stimulating evening of information and discussion, in which we will learn about some of the challenges facing migrants in Haringey, and ask incumbent councillors and candidates how they mean to make sure Haringey becomes a more welcoming Borough for all, including migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.

6.30 – arrival

7.00 – Film

NHS Borderlands (20 mins) is an investigative documentary from Bare Life Films, promoted by Patients Not Passports, that explores the human impact of NHS charges on migrants. It explores the story of Angela, who fled persecution in Zimbabwe only to be subjected to Hostile Environment immigration policies in the UK and charged for vital medical care. Angela’s story exposes the reality for thousands of people living in the UK facing charges for, and exclusion from, vital medical care, undermining the NHS’s founding commitment to universal healthcare.

7.25 – Presentation

The screening will be followed by a presentation by Dr Rachel Benchekroun of research undertaken with mothers living across north London with insecure immigration status, exploring the barriers they have faced accessing their basic rights. She will be joined by Haringey Welcome member Champagne, currently working with Rachel, who has lived experience of insecure status.

7.40 – Panel discussion and Hustings

We will conclude the evening with a candidate’s panel and hustings with questions from attendees. Please prepare your best questions!
