TFL ASKS SHOPPERS TO GO GREEN THIS BLACK FRIDAY
Using click and collect, green delivery slots and grouping deliveries can help reduce emissions on the capital’s roads TfL is asking businesses and consumers to consider greener options to get their items around London as the capital takes advantage of Black Friday offers and the festive shopping season begins. Lorries and vans are vital for London’s economy as half of the value of household expenditure, around £79 billion per year, relies on road freight. However, TfL data shows that increased van and lorry traffic, partly driven by online shopping, contributed to 29 per cent of harmful nitrogen dioxide emissions in central London alone in 2016. Nitrogen dioxide is a key contributor to London’s toxic air, which is threatening the health of millions of Londoners. As retailers across the capital offer various options to reduce deliveries, it has never been easier to find ways to help reduce the impact of festive deliveries on London’s air quality and congestion. Options include: When ordering online, try a click and collect facility near home – shoppers can get their parcels delivered to a local store or use locker facilities to collect parcels. Click and Collect options can be found across London and by having […]

WHAT IS THE TRUE COST OF A BAG OF DRUGS FOR A NIGHT OUT WITH FRIENDS?
As the capital eases out of lockdown, the Metropolitan Police Service is raising awareness of the devastating consequences drug supply has on young lives across the city. A short film titled ‘Fair Trade’, written and directed by London filmmaker Leon Oldstrong, in association with the Met, follows the life of a 15-year-old Jason Bojai who is groomed by an exploitative gang in south London. The film captures how Jason’s life is forever changed, as he is manipulated by older gang members. As they gain his trust, they lead him down a path which isolates him from his friends and family and puts him in danger. Conversely, ‘Fair Trade’ also highlights one of the drivers of drug supply in the capital, middle-class and recreational drug users, whose demand for products invariably helps fuel gang activity across the capital. Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Rose, of the Met, said: “The ‘Fair Trade’ film is a powerful reminder of the true cost of illegal drugs. We know drugs are linked to a high proportion of violence in London. Young vulnerable people have lost their lives and will continue to be painfully exploited by gangs because of demands as a result of middle class drug use. “Ignorance […]

Police were called at 22:40hrs on Friday, 10 July, to a man stabbed in Westbury Avenue, N22. Officers found a 23-year-old man suffering multiple stab injuries. He has been taken to hospital and has suffered life-changing injuries. It was later confirmed shots had been fired at the scene. Detectives from North Area CID are investigating. There has been no arrest at this early stage. Detective Inspector Paul Ridley from North Area CID said: “This was a sustained attack which has left the victim fighting for his life in hospital. It is absolutely crucial that witnesses come forward. “The nearby Westbury Public House was open and I urge any patrons that may have seen the assault or the offenders making off to come forward. I would also like any persons with private or dashcam footage on their vehicles to present that to the investigation team as there could be vital clues. “If you know who is responsible then I urge you to do the right thing and inform Police or Crimestoppers in confidence.” Cordons remain in place at the location. Appeal for witnesses and information
Trident officers investigating a shooting in Wood Green are appealing for information and any footage that may have been captured. At around 2145hrs on Monday, 13 July, three men were chased along Wood Green High Road by a group of suspects with a firearm. One of the three men, aged 27 years, was shot in the shoulder before all three were able to get to safety in a nearby shop. Shots were also fired into the shop, causing minor injury to a member of staff who did not require hospital treatment. The suspects left the scene in what is believed to be a silver saloon car. Police were alerted and a crime scene, which has now been closed, was put in place. The victim was treated at hospital and subsequently discharged. No motive has been established at this time and no arrests made. The investigating officer, DS Mark Attridge, said: “This incident took place on a main road that was busy with traffic and pedestrians. It was extremely lucky that other members of the public were not harmed. “I am appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to make contact with police or Crimestoppers anonymously. As I have mentioned, the […]

What are the Tier 3 rules as London faces new Covid restrictions?
London will move into tier 3 from midnight tonight/Wednesday 16th December.

London moves into Tier 4
London moved into Tier 4 on Sunday 20th December. Our deputy London director Professor Paul Plant @Plant8Paul summarises the latest situation. Chair of London Councils Cllr Georgia Gould said: “On 17 December over 5,700 people tested positive across our city. Yesterday over 280 Londoners were admitted to hospital and in total there are more than 2,500 of our family members, friends, colleagues and neighbours in hospital. That is deeply worrying. “We are pleased that the Government has listened to London’s local leaders and public health advisors, and recognised the urgency and seriousness of the situation facing London. “We fully support the measures the Prime Minister has announced today to keep London safe. “It is clear that we have hit one of the worst points of this second wave at one of the most challenging moments of the year, when so many people are out and about on our High Streets and shopping centres, getting ready for Christmas and looking forward to seeing family and friends. We know these announcements will be bitterly disappointing for all Londoners and we will need all the care, kindness and community spirit that has shone so brightly this year to get through the coming weeks. “As London […]
